The municipality has ancient origins, as evidenced by the archaeological finds which trace the first settlement back to 1086.

Among the historic buildings that deserve to be visited there is the Church of San Leolino, which is considered one of the oldest churches in the Florentine area, where you can admire works of art by Santi Buglioni, Bicci Lorenzo, Cenni di Francesco and a circular with drawing, attributed to Perugino or his workshop.

Also worth visiting is the Torre di Pian dell’Isola, a watchtower and fort, which later became a stately home.

Nearby, we find the Pieve di San Lorenzo a Miransù, built on the remains of an ancient Roman fortification, the Monastery of Santa Maria, in the small village of Rosano, dating back to 780 which houses important works of art and the Church of San Piero in Perticaia with an early Christian crypt and cloister.

The “Via di Francesco” also passes through the municipality of Rignano, a set of paths that connect the places linked to the life of San Francesco d’Assisi in Tuscany, in particular the stretch that connects Florence to La Verna.
